OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations will host a public issues forum July 14 for the greater Oswego community about the Bion Environmental Technologies Inc. proposed integrated beef cattle processing, ethanol and renewable energy project. Reservations to attend the forum are requested by July 9.
Presenting at the forum, which is set for 7 p.m. in the Campus Center auditorium, will be three Bion representatives: Dominic Bassani, vice president of strategic planning; Jeff Kapell, vice president of project development; and Dr. James Morris, chief technology officer.
If completed, the proposed integrated and closed-loop processing project would be the largest cattle livestock facility east of the Mississippi River. The facility would provide an estimated 500 to 600 full-time, skilled and semi-skilled jobs for the Oswego County regional economy.
According to project information, the facility design is based on a business model anchored in environmental sustainability, including a patented comprehensive waste treatment technology that would result in the smallest per-head environmental footprint of any large livestock operation in the world.
Bion representatives will present on the full range of “green tech” features designed into the project. Details about the project can be found at www.biontech.com.
Members of the public attending the forum will be welcome to comment and ask questions.
For reservations and information about parking, call 312-3492 or e-mail obcr@oswego.edu.
I am a cattle buyer working in three different states. I know the Bion deal is another bunch of greedy guys looking for a handout from our government. All the cattle it would take to run this operation are located over a 1000 miles from New York and also all packing houses. There is no way to make this profitable without huge grants to pad their pockets.
ReplyDeleteThey have a good business plan plain and simple. Why is it that every time someone wants to try something new and different the "old and entrenched" have to bash it. I am so sick and tired of "experts" who are quick to downplay the viability if this project. It left this area due to the ignorance of the people who were against it. Our public officials were even worse, they were at best lukewarm to the idea while throwing support to the "Brasher International Raceway". Well guess what folks, we ended up with absolutely nothing. This area is dead and getting worse (what a concept, worse than dead).
