Now they can deliver on their big promises.
We've heard many times about their strong support and the Northern Corridor Transportation Group has endorsed them and assured us all now is the time this project actually gets done.
So, let's see everybody put the federal government's money where the politicians' and local officials' mouths have been.
It's a lame duck Democrat Congress in a federal government under complete control by their party. Sen. Schumer is the No. 2 man in the U.S. Senate, and Sen. Gillibrand has assured us that she's got more clout than a typical inside party appointee.
It's time to deliver on the hype: move I-98 to the front burner, get it funded and start to build it. Assure us you mean what you say. Don't disappoint us again.
Senator Clinton had supported this project and it would be great if our current senators can get this through while they have the chance. It would be nice to get some funding for the north country rather than all our tax money going to New York City.
ReplyDeleteThis ranks right up there with the Brasher International Provide Jobs, Stimulate the Economy, Stupid Idea Racetrack.
ReplyDeleteNo one ever promised that the I-98 project would become a reality any time soon. I started working on this project over 10 years ago with the Central Trades Council. At that time, it was named "four lanes for jobs". When I travel to Champlain or Watertown and see all the warehouses and distribution centers going up, I can only shake my head in disgust. We have a new Customs facility that could handle many times more cross-border traffic. But we can't get any meaningful support from the GOP, and the opportunities it would provide keep fading away.
ReplyDeleteNo meaningful GOP support? The only reason this thing is still alive is federal money brought in by John McHugh.
ReplyDeleteYou're a funny guy Bruce. You claim to not be political but you jump on Republicans and anyone who dares question wasteful public spending.
Let's call spades, spades.
The highway has never had real financial support or commitment from politicians of all political stripes. Why couldn't Big Labor secure the financing when the Democrats they unconditionally support controlled everything in Albany or Washington? Why can't they get that commitment now while they still control things in both capitals?
George Pataki supported the highway more than Cuomo I, Spitzer, Paterson and Cuomo II combined. Hell, the previous three and current Dem governors don't even give it lip service, let alone funding.
