Property Tax Cap Just More Albany Political Crap

Democrats and Republicans alike in Albany are just spouting more political crap when they call for a two-percent local property tax cap.
How can they possibly keep a straight face uttering this nonsense while the ruins of New York State's finances are smoldering in the background?
For decades they haven't been able to pass a budget on time, until this year. Why? Pure politics.
This state is still billions of dollars in debt, but they're going to tell those of us on the local level that we can never raise taxes by more than two percent? Give me a break!
Excuse me Gov. Cuomo, Majority Leader Skelos and Speaker Silver, but your arrogance is showing.
I'll stand behind the Town of Massena's budget now and in the future. And, I'll let local voters decide if taxes are too high and whether the town budget is responsible.
We don't need a bunch of jokers in Albany lecturing us on fiscal responsibility.
Sens. Griffo and Ritchie, stick to state politics, and Assembly Members Russell and Blankenbush, stay the hell out of local government. Unless you guys are going to do something about the ridiculous cost of state pensions or help us rein in the ever-increasing level of public employee benefits, forgive me if I ignore your hand-wringing about the cost of local taxes.
Frankly, it's none of your damn business until you do something to improve our economy, stop the growth and waste in state government, and put an end to the strangulation of small business and hometown events by the out of control bureaucrats in agencies like the NYS Department of Health and Department of Environmental Conservation.
Clean up the governmental and political messes that litter Albany and our state before you brazenly demand that local governments toe your arbitrary line on tax caps.
It's time to get real.
Stop grandstanding.
Stop wasting our valuable time and tax dollars debating meaningless legislation like same-sex marriage.
Will that do something to help our economy or create jobs?
No.
But, like your proposed tax cap legislation, it makes great headlines.
And that's what most of you are about - headlines and soundbites, Facebook posts and Tweets.
Those things all accomplish very little, but they do keep the voters at home preoccupied while you do next to nothing to get us out of the financial crisis you helped create.

  1. Have you made your feelings known to our elected state representatives? If so, how did they respond?
